Sometimes it takes a lot of bandwidth. The longer your podcast and the more fans you have, the more bandwidth you need.
Software depends on your level of expertise and how slick you want the finished product to be. Software could include a recording program, an editing program, and maybe an FTP client for faster uploading.
Fist you need hardware to record your show, either video or audio. (If you don’t know how, you’re not ready to make a podcast. Learn how to use audio or video recording equipment and then you will be ready. For audio, you might start with a microphone from radio shack, plugged into the sound card of your computer tower, with GarageBand recording software. For video, you’d start with a digital video camera.)
Get the show into your computer. If necessary, edit it with an editing software program, like GarageBand for audio or Final Cut for video. Save it as an mp3 file if it’s audio, mp4 file if it’s video.
Decide where you want it hosted. Look in your Joomla settings and see how much bandwidth they give you. Here is a bandwidth calculator to tell you how much you might need.
For a newbie, it’s best to use a site that specializes in hosting podcasts. They will give you the RSS code. RSS code does 2 things: It lets you list your podcasts on itunes and other places, and it lets people subscribe to your podcast.
