Joomla: Can I change my main banner on a template to a flash banner?

Let’s say that I have the flash banner ready.

If I ftp it in the folder on the place of the existing banner it will not take the place of the other banner because it’s a different file. What I am thinking is: is it possible to change the existing banner to a flash one if I change the code in html or css?

    just change the code, if you have alot to change then i’m not sure. or you can ftp the whole entire newly updated site again.. or if its /image.jpg change it to /image.swf

    First suggestion, if you are modifying one of the default templates, make a copy of it and modify that instead. That way you won’t have to redo your CSS and HTML files (where you can alter which images to use) every time you update. If you end up modifying one of the php files, you will have to apply the modification every time you apply an update.

    Second, in Joomla! you specify what kind of files to allow in:

    Global Configuration > System > Media settings

    Make sure that you specify the file type for Flash there.

    Personally I consider Flash an over-rated waste of bandwidth, but we can agree to disagree on that point. ;-)
