I think I should try Drupal since it has just won several big awards such as webware and open source cms. There must be something in it.
I you have tried both, which one you think you like most?

Rather use oscommerce.
I have experimented with both Joomla (1.5) and Drupal (6.2) for the past couple of months.
I have not done any ecommerce sites yet but I suggest, since you sound like you are pretty hands on, doing mock installations of modules/extensions for each and testing them out.
Check the forums on both (joomla.org and drupal.org) and see what ecommerce modules/ext are actually available AND compatible with the most recent stable versions of each. And really read the reviews and feedback on the modules.
Drupal third party developers seem to be a little behind on making their stuff 6.x ready. But that said the modules seem to integrate much more smoothly on the whole.
Joomla third party developers seem to be doing better and there are many more options, even those ext that run in “legacy mode” (i.e. a plug-in in in 1.5 that will let you run some 1.0 native modules).
You’ll have the best success starting from scratch (like it sounds like you are) than trying to integrate a module/ext into an existing site.
So if you have direct access to your own server, do some research on their forums about individual ecommerce modules/extensions and crank out a few demo sites. I think you’ll like the easy of Drupal for simples stuff. Themes (templates in Joomla talk)are not as easy to modify generally.
If you are already familiar and comfortable with Joomla I wouldn’t bother the undertaking of an ecommerce Drupal site, unless you are really hankerin to learn something new. The deeper you go into Drupal the steeper the learning curve, though in my option it is much easier to navigate on the admin side than Joomla AND much easier to position your content on the page, MUCH easier.
