Jumpstart your Joomla Websites - Click for Details
In the Module Manager where you can edit the Main Menu (mod_mainmenu) title there should be a set of radio buttons just below the title to determine if the title is displayed or not:
show title: Y N
The operation you want is called “unpublish” from the backend “Modules > Site Modules” list. Either click the icon in the “Published” column to toggle the status, or select the checkbox next to the main menu module and click on Unpublish.
